Our responsibility towards the environment
Energy – sustainability as a corporate goal
Our vision for the future is to be a pioneer in the industry with our resource friendliness. That is why we actively promote sustainability measures with building renovations, solar panels and heat recovery systems.
We are convinced that sustainable business is the key to long-term success. That is why the topic of sustainability is a fixed component of our strategy and corporate goals. In addition to building renovations and continuous energy-saving measures, we have equipped our roofs with solar cells in 2022. The solar energy generated flows directly into our power grid and enables us as an industrial company to increase our degree of self-sufficiency.
The production of high-precision tools generates heat, and, at the same time, requires perfect climatic conditions. We make targeted use of the thermal energy generated by our modern machinery by employing state-of-the-art heat recovery systems. Our heat recovery in production reduces the need for oil and gas by over 90 % – and thus ensures a practically fossil-free indoor climate in all URMA premises.
With these measures, ongoing investments and continuous innovations, we are improving our carbon footprint in the long term and contributing to sustainability.
Saving resources in product development
Designing products responsibly requires a holistic view of the product life cycle. We stand for responsible use of materials and sustainable production and extend the product life with our retrofit offer.
We question our processes on a daily basis. CIP, the continuous improvement process, is an integral part of our culture and is fully embraced and promoted. In this way, we are continuously optimising our production, reducing CO2 emissions in tool manufacturing and improving our processes.
When developing a product, we look at efficient design so that the material requirements during manufacture and the service life are matched in the best possible way. Thanks to a resource-saving design, we reduce the carbide content to an absolute minimum. The choice of materials also has an impact on the environment in many ways. Durable materials reduce wear and tear and are suitable for recycling.
Waste management from a-z
Proper waste disposal is a social, ecological and economic necessity. We have an efficient and well-thought-out waste management system in place to reduce waste materials where
possible, and to dispose of them properly.
We reduce our waste rate every year. Unfortunately, waste still cannot be avoided, which is why we focus on a conscious approach to waste. On the one hand, we are careful to generate as little waste as necessary, and, on the other hand, we sort and separate all the waste we generate in production, in the office and even in the staff kitchen.
We avoid hazardous substances wherever necessary and dispose of them properly.
