Planet Carrier
Initial situation
Planet carriers are used in automatic transmissions. These parts are produced in large quantities and often on vertical turning machines.
Full automated production and high reliability are recommended for this part. The challenge is to machine the bores within very tight concentricity and perpendicularity tolerances in two different materials.

The URMA solution
Special reaming tool with guide pads
The guide pads ensure keeping the tight tolerances also with a mature worn out insert. This improves the tool life significantly.
An additional runout adjustment after insert change is not needed, due to the precise interface between insert and shank.
The central clamping screw guarantees a quick and save insert change.
