Polymers for industrial 3D printing: Polyamide 11

Nylon in 3D printing – replacement for ABS or PA6

This high-performance bio-based plastic polyamide 11 (PA 11) is produced from 100% renewable castor seeds. PA 11, also known as nylon, is chemically and mechanically heat-resistant, and its durability makes it an excellent choice for highly technical applications. EOS materials in this class are a high-performance, impact-resistant alternative for ABS or PA6 plastics that have proven themselves in injection molding. The additively manufactured end products are just as strong, flexible and durable as injection-molded parts.

Areas of application:
The material is ideally suited for producing functional elements that require high material toughness (e.g. film hinges) and/or impact strength. Components on which no chipping is allowed (e.g. in the interior of vehicles) are therefore among the typical fields of application.

Polymer material PA 1101 - Polyamide 11 white for industrial 3D printing

PA 1101 - Polyamide 11 white

These white, slightly translucent, additively manufactured components are characterized by high impact strength and elongation at break. They do not splinter even under the highest mechanical stresses. Compared to PA 12 they have higher temperature resistance and nearly constant mechanical properties over a wide range of temperatures. The material PA 1101 is based on renewable raw materials (castor oil).

Tensile modulus 1600 MPa
Tensile strength 48 MPa
Elongation at break 45 %

PA 1102 black - Polyamide 11 black for industrial 3D printing

PA 1102 black - Polyamide 11 black

Components made from the mass-colored polyamide 11 powder have a consistent black color and are therefore particularly suitable for visible parts subject to abrasive stress. In addition, they have high impact strength and elongation at break and do not splinter even under the highest mechanical stresses. Compared to PA 12 they have higher temperature resistance and nearly constant mechanical properties over a wide range of temperatures. The material PA 1102 black is based on renewable raw materials (castor oil).

Typical mechanical properties
Tensile modulus 1560 MPa XY / 1610 MPa Z
Tensile strength 48 MPa
Elongation at break 45 % XY / 28 % Z

HP 11-30 - Polyamide 11 carbon-fiber-filled for industrial 3D printing

HP 11-30 - polyamide 11 carbon-fiber-filled

This high-performance plastic made of PA 11 has high strength combined with increased impact strength and elongation at break because it is reinforced with carbon fibers. Since the fibers are encapsulated (compounded) in the raw material, the dark gray components have comparable mechanical properties (isotropy) in all three spatial directions. The material dissipates electrostatic charge.

Typical mechanical properties
Tensile modulus 3300 MPa XY
Tensile strength 56 MPa XY
Elongation at break 8 - 9 %

Thermal properties
Melting temperature (20°C/min) 187°C ± 3 °C

Physical properties
Density 990 kg/m³
